A little Bling for this Birthday Bash

This cake was designed for one of my close friends. She is fun to be around and one of the most caring people I know. She's also very much a "girly girl" and her personality really makes her shine and stand out in a crowd. I tried to capture that in the design of the cake. The cake was white cake with homemade buttercream icing and chocolate fondant stripes. The flowers and silver strands were non-edible. I really enjoyed making this cake and while, it wasn't my traditional (all edible) cake, it was a lot of fun designing and creating.

  2. Hey...what do you think about princess and pirates? Could you do that w/o a bunch of skull and crossbones?

I just found your blog and I am so impressed with all your cakes and cupcakes! They are beautiful!!! I live in MN and started decorating cakes last year and you have really inspired me to keep at it! I was wondering with your football cake, how you make the fondant look like it is ripping because of the football. Do you add those curls onto the cake? I want to make a U of M cake for my brother and I'm not sure how you made it look like they weren't just stuck on the cake! Thank you for your time and I can't wait to see more of your cakes!

  4. Thank you!! I'm loving every minute of cake decorating. I used a 50/50 mix of fondant/gumpaste and made the curls a day before, allowed them to dry hard, and then placed them around the foot ball. The cake was actually iced in buttercream, I just made the gumpaste/fondante colored to match. Good Luck with all of you future cake decorating!!
